Hi, I'm Lance Peterson
I thrive on resolving human resources (HR) and employee relations (ER) problems for businesses and individuals. Prior to joining Grow HR, I spent 14 years honing my skills as an employment mediator with the now Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
As an employment mediator I've mediated well over 2500 mediations including personal grievances, disputes, collective negotiations and employment relationship issues.
During my time with MBIE I found that sometimes the hard conversations really need to be had. And, more often than not, it is these conversations that lead to effective solutions and future-focused settlement agreements.
I've been involved in just about every employment relationship problem one could imagine and have come to believe that potential problems need to be dealt with quickly and efficiently for everyone involved.

My specialty fields are problem resolution and employment relations, disciplinary proceedings, personal grievances and disputes, redundancies, employment agreements, positive performance management, and performance reviews.
My background and credentials:
Previous to my career in private sector HR, I spent 24 years in the NZ Army progressing through the ranks and retiring as a Captain. My last role in the army was as the HR manager for over 3000 people in the regular and Territorial Forces, and for civilian staff.
After leaving the army I spent two years as a Labour Department Inspector based in Napier, and as an accredited panel member of the Resolution Institute – a community of mediators, arbitrators, adjudicators, restorative justice practitioners and other dispute resolution (DR) professionals covering Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region
I also have a background in the design and delivery of training programmes including residential courses, distance education and on-the-job training.
