There have been 2 recent legislation amendments introducing new types of leave.
The first is an extra Public Holiday for Matariki. The first Matariki Public Holiday will be observed on 24th June 2022. The timing of this public holiday will change each year but is expected to always be on a Friday or Monday.
The second change was the addition of paid bereavement leave of up to 3 days in the event of miscarriage or stillbirth for employees with more than 6 months of service. This leave is for situations where an employee or their partner experiences a miscarriage or stillbirth. It is also available for people planning to have a child through surrogacy or adoption.
