Minimum Wage Increasing 1 April 2020

In New Zealand, the minimum wage is increasing on 1 April from $17.70 to $18.90 per hour. The training wage will increase to $15.12 per hour and will remain at 80% of the adult minimum wage.

These increases offer a balanced approach toward reaching the Government’s plan for a $20 minimum wage by 1 April 2021. The $18.90 rate was determined after consultation with stakeholders, including employer and employee representatives, and confirmed after an annual review, which took into account the current economic context and the interests of businesses and workers.
